4 jobs you can hand to an AI this week

Welcome to the first BotsDoThat Weekly. Each week we pick a few real, practical jobs people are handing to AI, tell you what you end up with, and give you a prompt you can copy. No hype, no made-up numbers.

1. Have an agent research a used car from its listing link

Shopping for a car? Paste the listing link before you book a viewing, and walk in with the right questions.

You end up with: A one-page report on the car, its history and what to ask, before you spend time on a viewing.

Copy this prompt
Research this used car for me: [listing link]. Pull out the make, model, year, mileage and VIN if shown. Tell me the common problems for this model and year, what the history or damage record shows (say which site you checked), and anything in the listing that doesn't add up. End with 5 questions to ask the seller. Don't contact the seller.

2. Have an agent contact tradespeople and line up quotes for a home project

If a fall fix-up is on your list, let an agent draft the messages to local trades and collect their replies in one table. You approve every message first.

You end up with: One table of replies from every trade, so you can pick who to meet.

Copy this prompt
I'm planning [project] at [town/area]. I need: [electrician, plumber, roofer...]. Find [5] well-reviewed local businesses for each. Draft one short message per business with this brief: [details, timing, photos]. Show me the drafts and the list first, and only send after I say yes. Then collect the replies in a table: business, trade, earliest start, what's included, questions they asked.

Difficulty: Medium · Source: X post by @NaughtyNomad (2026-09-01): an agent using ChatGPT contacted every subcontractor on the island for his renovation and compared their quotes · Full guide with watch-outs

3. Send a long video or thread to your bot with one reply

For the long videos and threads you keep meaning to get to: one reply saves a short summary for later.

You end up with: A read-later pile of short summaries, saved without copying links or leaving the app you were scrolling.

Copy this prompt
When I send you a video or thread to save, write me a summary with: one sentence on what it is, the 3 to 5 main points, anything I should act on, and the link. Keep it under 150 words. Put new summaries in one running list, newest first, and once a day tell me how many are waiting. Don't reply to or post anything on X for me.

Difficulty: Easy · Source: X post by @Texas_Twins_Dad (2026-10-20): replies "@bot summarize this and send it to my bot" under long videos and threads; the summary waits in the Grok Bot app · Full guide with watch-outs

4. Set spend limits and usage alerts on your AI accounts

If any of your bots run on autopilot, put a hard cap on what they can spend.

You end up with: A known worst-case monthly bill, and an early warning when a bot starts using more than expected.

Copy this prompt
Help me set safe limits. My providers: [list]. My expected monthly use: [estimate]. For each provider, tell me where in its official billing settings to set a spend limit and usage alerts, and suggest a limit about [1.5x] my estimate. Point me to the provider's own help page for each step.

Fill out a job application faster with an agent

Write a fact sheet once, let a browser agent type it into the employer's careers page, sign in yourself, and stop before Submit. It also covers what to keep out of the chat and the job-scam signs the FTC warns about.

One thing that went wrong

Meta pauses Muse chat sharing after shared chats turned up on the web

Researchers found more than 6,800 Muse share links through public web records, some showing loan applications, revenue reviews and work calendars, so Meta switched sharing off while it reviews. Treat any AI "share link" as public, and keep private details out of chats you share.
