What the bot does
- Write down your must-haves before you start: city or ZIP code, top rent, bedrooms, move-in date, pets, and one or two features you won't give up, like parking or in-unit laundry.
- In ChatGPT, open Apps, connect a rental app such as Apartments.com, Zumper, RentCafe or Apartment List, then type @ and the app's name before your request so it searches that site's live listings.
- Paste the prompt below. Change one thing at a time (price, area, a feature) so you can see what each trade-off costs you.
- Ask it to compare your favorites side by side on rent, required fees, pet rules and move-in date, and to give you the link to each full listing.
- Request tours or message the property only for the places you choose, and check every detail on the listing site and in person before you apply or pay anything.

Watch out
- Listings can be out of date or wrong. Confirm rent, fees and availability on the listing site and with the property before you apply.
- Rental scams copy real listings. Never pay a deposit or fee for a place you haven't seen, and never pay by wire, gift card, crypto or a payment app. The FTC says to search the address for duplicate listings and call the company's own number.
- Don't share your Social Security number, ID or pay stubs in the chat or with a landlord until you've agreed to rent from a company you've checked out.
- Each app only shows its own site's listings, so a place listed elsewhere won't appear. Try a second app if results are thin.
