Organize your photos by just asking
Connect Google Photos to Gemini and give it a task in plain words: find the best shots from a trip, skip the near-duplicates, and put them in a new private album, or do it on a schedule every month.

What the bot does
- Make sure the photos you want are backed up to Google Photos. The AI features only work on backed-up photos. This works on iPhone too if you use the Google Photos app.
- Open the Gemini app or gemini.google.com, connect Google Photos under Connected Apps, then tap Task above the text box.
- Paste the prompt below and fill in the trip or event. Gemini searches by people, place, date or event, picks the best shots and leaves out near-duplicates.
- Look through the album it makes before doing anything else. New albums are private, and Gemini asks before it shares an album or sends an email.
- To keep up with new photos, ask for a repeat task, such as a highlights album at the end of every month.
What you end up with
Curated albums of your best photos from each trip or event, made by describing what you want, and kept private until you say to share them.
Copy-paste prompt
Fill in the [brackets]. Then paste it into any tool below.
Look in my Google Photos for pictures from [the trip, party or event, e.g. our beach trip last July]. Pick the best [15] photos and videos, leave out blurry shots and near-duplicates, and put them in a new private album called '[album name]'. Don't delete, move or edit any of my original photos, and don't share the album or email anyone. When you're done, tell me how many you added and list anything you weren't sure belonged, so I can check it.

Watch out
- This is still rolling out. Google says Photos tasks in Gemini may not be available to you yet and aren't available in some US regions, and you must be 18 or over. If you don't see it, the Ask tab in Google Photos can still find photos when you describe them.
- It can pick the wrong photos. Google calls Ask Photos experimental and says it may give inaccurate results, so check an album before you share it.
- Albums are labels, not folders. Removing a photo from an album keeps it in your library, but deleting it from the main Photos view removes it everywhere.
- Shared albums can be seen by anyone with the link. Check for private photos, like screenshots of documents, before you share.
What this costs to run
In a chat app it runs inside your plan. If you run it as a bot on an AI API, the bill depends on how often it runs and how much it reads.
Estimate it in the cost calculator →

Questions people ask
Can AI organize my Google Photos for me?
Yes, where it's available. Once you connect Google Photos to Gemini, a task can find photos by person, place, date or event, pick the best ones, filter duplicates and save them to a new album. It can also run on a schedule, like a monthly highlights album.
Will Gemini change or delete my original photos?
Google says Gemini doesn't edit or overwrite originals; edits are saved as a new copy. New albums are private, and it asks your permission before sharing an album or sending an email.
Which AI tools can do this?
Gemini can do this today. Paste the copy-paste prompt on this page into any of them and fill in the [brackets].
How hard is it to set up?
